The Fayetteville Board of Education voted unanimously tonight to approve the hiring of Dr. Larry Ben as the Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services. Departments within the Division of Administrative Services include student services, policy development, strategic planning, human resources, and legal services.  Dr. Ben will assume this role July 1, 2017.

“I am thrilled to have Dr. Ben join the Fayetteville Public Schools family,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Wendt. “He is a well-respected leader in Arkansas, and possesses the highest level of integrity and character. His experience as a superintendent and his familiarity with Northwest Arkansas make him uniquely qualified to help lead Fayetteville Public Schools.”

Dr. Ben currently serves as the Superintendent of Schools for the Greenland School District, a position he has held since July 2014. Previously, he served as superintendent in the Decatur School District, as principal and assistant principal in the Rogers School District, and as the Federal programs director and athletic director in Gravette.

“I am looking forward to working with the Fayetteville team to make a great school district even better,” said Dr. Ben. “I am excited to accept Dr. Wendt’s invitation to serve Fayetteville Public Schools, and I look forward to overseeing the Administrative Services division.”

Dr. Ben earned a bachelor’s of science in education and a master’s of education in school administration from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.  He earned both his specialist and doctorate of education in educational leadership degrees from the University of Arkansas.

During his tenure at Greenland Dr. Ben redesigned the middle school to institute grade level teams of teachers and students and oversaw completion of construction of a new athletic complex. While at Decatur he helped raise the student ACT performance, and the high school was awarded a Bronze Medal as one of the “Nation’s Best High Schools” by U.S. News and World Report. Dr. Ben also has over 16 years of experience as a classroom teacher and coach.

“The hire of Dr. Ben is another successful step in the creation of our new leadership team,” said Dr. Wendt. Dr. Ben will join current district administrators Dr. John L Colbert, Associate Superintendent for Support Services, and Dr. Steven Weber, Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.
