Free Summer Lunch & Snack Program Expands Again for 2018
04/16/2018
The Fayetteville Public Schools Summer Lunch & Snack program will be expanded to include a second mobile service site for the summer of 2018 to serve more free nutritious lunches and snacks to anyone age 18 or younger, according to Ally Mrachek, Director of Child Nutrition for Fayetteville Public Schools. The main site for lunches and snacks will be at The Owl Creek School at 375 N. Rupple Road on Monday through Friday from June 4 through August 8. Lunch will be served from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Snacks will be served from 1 to 3 p.m. The program will be closed on the July 4. Mobile service will be provided for all children (no adults) at two sites this year. Yvonne Richardson Community Center at 240 E. Rock St., served Monday through Friday from June 4 through August 8. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A new mobile site will open this summer at the Fayetteville Public Library at 401 W Mountain St, served Monday through Friday from June 4 through August 8. Lunch will be served from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Both sites will be closed on July 4. Meals and snack service will also be provided to City of Fayetteville Parks & Recreation summer camps, Donald W. Reynolds Boys & Girls Club, and the district’s Migrant program. “I am excited to see the continued increase in the number of students served by our Summer Lunch & Snack program with the addition of a second mobile site,” said acting superintendent Dr. John L Colbert. “The program served an average of 400 students per day in 2017, and we anticipate serving approximately 600 per day in the summer of 2018. This program has served our community well for many years, and we’re happy to be able to expand the program to reach more students with healthy, nutritious meals during the summer.” “Creating a new partnership with the Fayetteville Public Library seemed to be a natural fit as we were planning the expansion of our summer meal and snack program,” said Ally Mrachek. “Connecting with existing summer youth programming to serve meals and snacks is the key to serving more kids healthy meals throughout the summer months. We love partnering with other entities who share the purpose of serving kids in our community, and it’s a win-win for all involved.”

FHS Senior Football Players Return to Leverett Elementary for Pep Rally
09/25/2017
Leverett Elementary hosted a pep rally honoring five FHS senior football players that attended Leverett as elementary students. “It was the perfect opportunity to promote not only Leverett pride, but Fayetteville pride,” said Principal Chris Sputo. “I wanted our students to see what they COULD become given hard work and a positive attitude! It was also a great way to teach some Leverett history with a revived Leverett chant.” The senior football players taught the student body a Leverett chant that was popular when they were in elementary school. This is Mrs. Sputo’s first year as principal of Leverett Elementary. Her son, Tyler Epperson, was one of the five seniors who participated in the pep rally and led the Leverett chant, as well as Lesh Chaddick, Cody Gray, Kaden Martindale, and Frank Morgan. FHS cheerleaders attended the pep rally as well, bringing school spirit and pride for the whole school to see and enjoy.
