BIKE EDUCATION

PE teachers at Bike Ed. PD

Gearing Up for Back To School (8/10/2023)

FPS PE Teachers joined NWACC bike technicians Ben and Colin for a hands on bike mechanics Professional Development. Each school in our district has their own set of bikes, and boy do they use them! At this PD, teachers learned basic wrenching skills they can use to keep their bike fleet in tip top shape. Student safety is our top priority. By providing instruction on basic bike maintenance, we help our teachers gain confidence in their ability to perform minor repairs. Safe bikes = fun rides!

Fayetteville designated Gold for Bicycle Friendly Community

The City of Fayetteville has been honored by the League of American Bicyclists as one of only 36 gold level bicycle friendly cities. This is the first year Fayetteville has received a gold designation, displaying how our community is more bike friendly than ever. Our schools play a big roll as we constantly work to make biking more equitable, accessible, and exciting for Fayetteville's youth. Recent Events:

On October 22nd, we wrapped up an amazing season of bike tune ups with our friends at OORC and NICA. This season, we teamed up to service McNair, Asbell, Holcomb, Washington, and Leverett, which totaled up to almost 200 bikes!! THANK YOU to the crews from OORC and NICA for helping ensure our students stay safe as they learn about biking. We couldn't do it without you!

October 5th was national Bike and Walk to School Day! We visited Holt and watched as students completely filled the school bike racks. These students are making strides to reduce their carbon footprint, improve their physical health, and contribute to a cleaner community. Great job, Huskies!

PE Teacher Playing Between the Bottles

This summer, our PE teachers had the chance to join Trailblazers + ETHIC for a day of On The Bike Professional Development. At the PD, teachers practiced bike handling skills, learned about Trailblazers + ETHIC Bike Club Toolkit, and put their own skills to the test. In these pictures, Cheyenne Plunket from Asbell and Kevin Thomas from Washington can be seen mastering a game of Between the Bottles.
