Joy Shirley

Joy Shirley assumed her duties as the new Assistant Superintendent for Supplemental and Support Services for Fayetteville Public Schools on July 1. The Fayetteville Board of Education approved her transition to this new position at their April 27 meeting. 

“I am very pleased to have Ms. Shirley in a more senior position on our leadership team, “said incoming superintendent Dr. John Mulford. “Her office will oversee numerous projects and programs across the district, and I’m confident that her experience, her skill set, and  her personality will serve us very well in this new role.”

“I am very excited to begin this new role with Fayetteville Public Schools,” said Ms. Shirley. “I look forward to working every day with this strong team to do what’s best for our kids and their families.”

Ms. Shirley most recently served as the Interim Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. During her 29-year career as an educator, she has also served as Director of Student Services for FPS, and she has also served as the District Coordinator for Special Education/504. She served as an assistant principal, special education teacher, reading specialist, and 5th grade teacher for the Springdale Public Schools and as an alternative learning environment teacher serving small school districts in Washington County. 

Ms. Shirley earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and her master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Arkansas. She received her Educational Specialist Degree from Harding University. She is also licensed in Building Level Administration, ESL, and as a reading specialist.
